 It is increasingly recognized that broadcasting has an important role to play in development as a widespread tool for information transfer,as a method to improve governance,as an important economic sector in its own right and as a potential access point to new information and communication technologies.Broadcast technologies have long been a powerful tool for development.Numerous examples of both television and radio being used as a highly cost effective tool for information and knowledge transfer exist in less developed countries.Development broadcasting originated primarily to carry information on agriculture,healt h,popu popula control to the ruralmassas.In it's very early stages,the problem of access to media was realized.At the samtime,the radio is a powerful tool for improving equity through information access in developing countries.There are numerous cases of the radio being used to briadcasb crop pieces and information on employment opportunities,for example,as well as information on weather or government policies.The radio has wide application in official development programs,as well.Programs can be broadcast in a range of local languages, techniques can include educational radio or television soap operas.The broadcast sector is an important source of employment and output itself.
